Joe Gearin's Bio
Way, way back in 1970 I was born. Because my parents were cousins, we were shunned by the traveling carnival they worked for. Their forbidden love, and my genetic abnormalities, caused me to spend a lot of time in culvert pipes as a child. I grew to love the smell of spent gas, and I was fascinated by the oily residue that would form on the sewer walls. This would serve me well later. Growing up wasn't easy for me, or my inbred brothers, but the comfort of bondo dust, and motor oil were always as close as the nearest industrial waste site. My parents were convinced that the secret to success was through that fancy book learnin', and they insisted that we all attend elementary school. This was tough, and the other children would often point at me and laugh. Then they would throw things. I managed to learn to read and write, so the University of Illinois gave me a fancy college degree in the spring of 93. I struck out west and lived in Denver for seven years. I even had a girl out there, but they made me give her back. During this span of time I happened across Grassroots Motorsports at the newsstand. Hey! There were other folks out there that liked the smell of bondo, and the feel of oil between their fingers! I decided that they needed me. In January of 2002, I moved to Daytona Beach, because I had heard it was a quiet little town. I walked into the GRM office one day and met Gabe. He thought at first that I was a salesman, and was about to put the touch of death on me when the phone rang. This gave me time to tell him my story, and he allowed me to live. A few weeks later they hired me as an intern. These days I sell advertising space in both GRM and CMS as well as working events throughout the country. I also occasionally contribute to the editorial side of things.
Currently my fleet consists of a 97 M3, a 74 TR-6, and the Subaru eating 84 AMC Eagle station wagon. I also ride a 84 Honda Interceptor 500, and a 92 Bridgestone MB-3 mountain bike. The fleet is guarded fiercely by Rufus the wonderdog.
