The Grassroots Motorsports Challenge Goes West

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oct. 4, 2008 – ORMOND BEACH, Fla.

West Coasters have long been taunted by Grassroots Motorsports $200X Challenges, as they’ve always been held at Florida venues. Can’t make it to the other side of the country, but still looking for some low-dollar fun? You’re in luck: We’re bringing our popular formula of budget autocross, concours and drag racing competition out West. GRM has teamed up with SDRev.com to present the Grassroots Motorsports Grand Challenge 2009.

But remember, this is a new event, so the rules aren’t business as usual: Think even more affordable. Out West, competitors may only spend $1000 to purchase, fix, prepare and compete. Also, the competition will take place during the course of an entire racing season instead of just a single weekend. A team may have at least two drivers competing at each racing event, and their top two times will count toward their team’s total season points.

The team with the most points at the end of the season will be our winner. Meanwhile, the top three teams competing in the SDGC will win free entry to the Kumho Tires Grassroots Motorsports $2009 Challenge.

Though the formula has been tweaked, the spirit of the event will remain the same. As Series Competition Director David Chong explains, “You better believe that we’re going to have fierce, serious competition out there. People are going to be pouring their hearts into this thing. At the same time, though, you have to realize that this is all in fun.”

“We have wanted to witness the creativity of our West Coast readers for some time, and this is the perfect opportunity to see, touch and photograph their creations,” added Tim Suddard, publisher of Grassroots Motorsports.
