With registration for our $2000 challenge presented by CRC Industries now open, we think it's a great time to highlight some previous entrants.

Word around the water cooler says that Patrick Caherty is coming back to the $2000 Challenge. Who’s Patrick? Just a handsome devil who was a Challenge regular back in the day–several times with a Corvair.

He last entered one of Chevy’s air-cooled sportsters in 2004, with this Penske-themed 1966 Corvair powered by a V8 courtesy of a Crown conversion completed by a previous owner back in 1984. Patrick ran a 13.781 quarter-mile time, placing him 16th in the 77-car field. According to his build thread, look for Patrick to return in another V8-powered Corvair.

Make your own low-buck memories as the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by CRC Industries returns October 25–26. Watch 2000challenge.com for details.

Patrick Caherty, Jason St. John

Sorry, that model of Patrick has been discontinued and replaced with a younger, more talented version.

The old version has become obsolete, and no longer works. However, it still takes good pictures of clean hands!

Good article. Thanks!

Dang, this was exactly the emotional lift i needed today!   imagine opening your favorite car website and seeing your old car as the lead story.  Friggin' awesome!

spitfirebill, i sold that car  on eBay, a few months after the $2004 Challenge.   the guy who bought it still has it, and i've been in touch with him a few times over the years.

I have always wanted one of the small block powered corvairs...had a 68 back in the day that I loved driving and cursed Chevy for some of their stupid design parameters...GRRR. Not to mention the greatest curse of all....RUST!!!!!
