Shoot, good catch, these would not be legal for gastropod then.

What about the BFG Sport Comp 2? Its always been the top of its category in tire testing from what ive seen. TW360 but a stiff carcass and thick shoulder blocks. Should be high on the list of acceptable tires.

A new contender, the ADVAN FLEVA V701 has emerged from Yokohoma.

BFG Comp2 is full tier down below the P4S and ECS on Tirerack scale.  I don't see it competing with either of those.

The Advan Fleva I would speculate is not as fast just based on the tread block sizes.  Also, I don't see sizes listed anywhere.

I still say ECS is the tire to have for 15 or 16" wheels.  17" or more I'd go for P4s, although ECS may still be a good budget option.

The Fleva is available in 205/50R15, which is all I really care about. It's also the smallest size that it's available in.

Why not just get the ECS in that size?

But why the Advan Fleva instead of the Yokohama S-Drives?  They're both rated at 300TW.  I'm guessing the Advan Fleva is replacing the S-Drives?  S-drives are on clearance, so that makes sense.

I'm also looking at Nitto Neogens in 205/50/15 with a 280TW rating.  They're not available at Tirerack, but they're available in several places for $300 shipped.  Does nitto have a reputation as a "cheap" tire?  3

I do know that there isn't necessarily a standard for TW ratings...and I've heard some local auto-x guys talk about how certain brands (Bridgeston) tires may print one TW rating, but actually operate on a whole other level.

I was doing some research and it appears that the Firestone Indy 500 tire has a pretty good rating on www.tirerack.com.

I looked at the test results and it is faster around their test track than the Continental Extreme Contact Sport which seems to be the go to choice for Gastropods.

Continental ECS         30.46

Yokohama S-Drive     30.46

Firestone Indy 500      30.25

Falken RT615k+            29.83

Hankook RS4               29.50

I ordered a set of the Firestones for the NX2000.   I will post a review once I get them installed this week.

They certainly aren't the budget go to tire.  I checked and they were about $200/tire in my size. Let us know how you like them.

I had a set on a FWD turbo Volvo (~275hp 1 wheel tire fryer) and LOVED them.  Stuck better than anything else I tried on the car

My suspicion is that the budget tire and the fast tire won't be the same tire. Unfortunately.

They were not expensive.  Granted I am running a 205/45r16 but I am at less than 400 installed with an alignment.

Priority Tire in PA is selling some old stock Indy 500's in 205/45r16 for only $60 a corner. Got some oldish Sport Comp 2s from them for my DD and have been very happy as I'll burn them down long before I care about aging.

Anyone have experience with the Sumitomo HTRZ. I’m looking at a pair of 265/40-18 for the rear of my GS400. 300 TW seems adequate

Well, now I see a set of Azenis FK510 in a 275/40-18 for even cheaper and the guy that had the car before me put a 3.9-1 Supra diff in it so it should still launch with the taller tire. I’ve got 255/40-18 on it now and 1st is really short.

Anyone have experience with these.

I entered a gs400 in the challenge a few years back.  It was an awesome car.  Desperately needed an LSD but that sounds like it won't be a problem on yours.

No input on the tires, carry on...

I’m a master tech at Wilde Lexus. I have driven 100s of these cars and the Supra LSD 4.1 rear makes the car completely different. I fell into one hell of a deal with this car.

Looks like firestone has a $60 rebate on the indy 500 currently (or $100 rebate if you have/start a firestone car care account)

That option just became more tempting IMO!

I might be under thinking this, but the plan is to run the two front ones attached to the car and the two rear ones that came in the trunk. They are black, round, paid for and in reasonably good condition for a 2000 mile journey and some abuse.

We hope.

I just checked to make sure the tires that came with my Ford Probe are legal, and, well:

Good enough.

I think you're good dude. And convincing me the logic of not buying a temporary use set of wheels for the wagon is an ok move.
