This state is kind of funny; Pitt State on the east end with the Bachelor's of Science in Auto Tech program they have, Wichita as the "Air Capital of the World" between, and then farther west is McPherson where that school is. I looked into going to McPherson for that degree before deciding on PSU instead.

hey guys! Ive gotten the cable shifter installed and I'm now only waiting on finishing the hydraulics for the clutch, and brakes Also, i still need to finish some engine stuff to see if it will run before tuning. I will go back to the 180 degree headers when i have time to redo them in stainless :) there is a car show at the school here out in Kansas on May 2nd if any of you are around it's becoming a really good show and we have some exciting cars coming this year including mine! The plenums will hopefully be welded up this week. it seems like the closer i get the more things that come up but i expect to have it running and driving by the car show... hopefully the transmission holds :)

Probably the same thing that happens to most epic builds...the last 10% of the project takes 90% of the effort and the reality kills the project.

I hope I am wrong cause this one was headed in a fun direction. Lots of talent.

Right...I am just restarting my '76 GT4 repower after 3 years of the car sitting in my office in Ft. Lauderdale. I plan to use the 2.5l/160hp natural Subaru from Subaru Performance Engines connected to the Porsche 901 5-sp or maybe a nice automatic. This car will be a regular driver at my house in SW France. I take my cue from the original guy in this thread, Jay Gilling. I bought the car without power at BAT. Car was not driven after blowing the orig. engine in 1981 and is in like-new condition. It is a CA/USA-mod car. I got brake calipers and disks done. I don't need high performance but the layout, with lots of luggage space, room for the dog in back, and more headroom than my Benz, is attractive. I never liked stock taillights and am designing new big round LED to resemble GTS. MANY large and small sub-projects are under way. Any ideas will be appreciated. John Kessler

Wait, what? Did Voorhen sell the car to you? What happened to the ITB twin turbo LS engine? Or are you another guy starting a similar project? I'm so confused.

Right! The Subaru/Porsche power option still looks good with simplicity its benefit. I also am thinking about an early Boxster drop-in pack, but computer issues are sounding insurmountable. It seems that the Subaru is a favorite in off-road racing in Calif. and lots of them are being built at affordable numbers. I have power from 160 hp up in the same small package. It appears that the only major cutting will be for the trans to stick out aft under the trunk. I am borrowing an empty Ferrari V8 gearbox to estimate half-shaft height. I may need to alter springs since new power will be lighter than original. Hard at work.

Haven't you considered using a V6 Alfa-Romeo? The one from the 156 seems ideal for this application. Still italian, lots of power, excellent sound, and quite common/affordable in Europe. The 156's trasmission is equiped with a cable shifter, so even that problem is solved.

I don't know if you read the beginning of the thread but the STI engine with Suby trans and adapter/ cable shifter was already figured out. The new owner wants bigger power and with his drivetrain choices so far I'm sure he will make something work just fine. Lots of people have put LS's in rear mount applications. Personally, I'm glad its getting a drivetrain that's still not Italian. I'd rather see it with a 300+ hp Japanese engine or a 600 hp + twin turbo American V8 than another Italian engine that makes less power than the original V8. The purists already hate this car, why try to placate them by making still Italian and refined? Keep it a fast ugly bastard Ferrari.

My $0.02.
