Lotus has been using Japanese engines for decades. (Mostly Toyota)
"A bit mangled" is extremely kind.
That looks like a pile of parts waiting to go on ebay. And the pile probably isn't that big.
I think these are really cool, personally.
I've always loved these despite their fwd sins. I think it stems from an early 90s Amiga car racing game.
I don't know what the market is for Elan bits from that era, but the price seems high to me as well.
That looks like it's been flood-rolled.

Maybe if the seller shifts the decimal point in the asking price to the left one digit... and assuming the engine can be torn down, cleaned, and made to run again, which may be a tall order.
If the frame is not twisted it might be interesting to pull the fiberglass off and build something classic on it,
What gearbox did these use ? Renault ?

Mechanics are all Isuzu. This is transverse wrong wheel drive.
I have actually always wanted one of these, ever since I was a kid, but this is just too far gone to be worth more than a few Benjamins to strip and hoard the parts for a nice one.

Yep, they might be FWD with an Isuzu engine, but still a Lotus chassis. I have only heard good things from people that have driven them hard.
