BTW, I HATE when people do that!
My brother just called, we're clearing out Mom's house tomorrow. He's retired and ambitious with a lot of contacts. He helped a little old lady by driving her to the fish market, he knows her from somewhere. About that time I sent Mike a pic of the LaSalle I just bought, he looked at it "Ooo". He showed the lady.
"Is your brother a car guy?"
Well yeah.
"I haven't talked about the car in years, but my husband always wanted a Low Rider. We went to California and bought a 1966 Impala 2 door fast back with a big block. Got all that silliness in the trunk. Hasn't moved in a decade or two."
We'll talk more tomorrow, any thoughts of where to sell it or (sight unseen) what it's worth?

Mmmmm. All that silliness in the trunk... What an awesome way to describe that.
LOL, I love it to... "Testing the waters". Either the car is for sale or it isn't. You don't have to be embarrassed if nobody buys it
If the paint is special and it has a reinforced frame/arms then it's worth $30k-$40k if you can clean it up, rebuild the suspension air/hydraulics, and ship it wherever. If the builder is a famous known builder with provenance then the sky is the limit into hundreds of thousands of dollars.
If the paint is just okay, the frame/arms are lightly modified or unmodified, and the builder is unknown then it's worth whatever a 66 big block is worth in your area minus cost to return the suspension to stock.
Honestly there isn't a huge money market for someone else's lowrider. You would need to hit the right buyer in the southwest looking to spend his retirement payout and be prepared to wait a few months.
It will be for sale shortly, just curious if there's a market. Mike will try to get pics on Monday. The car's in primer, but for me? 86 the hydraulics and do track days, I'm too old & white for riding low. =~ (
In reply to 914Driver :
in for details on this. i learned to parallel park in a 66 caprice with a 4-speed and manual steering.
It matters how much they hacked up the frame to put in the hydraulics, I have seen some that were pretty dangerous ,
but sounds like a neat find anyway :)
The price is directly related to the size of the metal flakes.
I came here looking for pictures
Cool maybe one day we'll know what I bid on
Nowhere just like the car
Sorry, he went on vaca. =~ (
I'm just amused to spot this part in my trajectory through life where the car left behind for a widowed little old lady to sell off is a lowrider.
I mean, it makes sense. They were totally a thing when I was a kid and I'm over fifty.
It's kinda wonderful.

I have a 66 Impala, so if this turns out to be a parts car type situation I'd be interested and willing to pay a fair price. Especially if it's a manual and buckets and console. The big block is also a plus because the current 283 isn't working for me in this behemoth.
