If the original Bullitt Mustang, one of most recognizable cars ever made, sold for $3.74 million, how much will this 1965 Shelby GT350R Prototype fetch?
Note the “Prototype” in the name. In this case, that means this ’65 Mustang isn’t just a GT350R, it’s the GT350R–as in the very first one ever built.
Best known as the Flying Mustang, this GT350R acted as a test mule for new parts and components, many of which went on to live in the 34 R-models later sold to customers.
In case that’s not enough, a number of legendary drivers also spent seat time in the Prototype: Ken Miles, Bob Bondurant and even Peter Brock, a regular contributor here at Classic Motorsports.
The last time this 1965 Shelby GT350R Prototype sold was back in July 2020, when it went across the block for $3.85 million. How much will it bring in at Mecum’s upcoming Kissimmee auction? Mecum says anywhere from $3.7 to $4 million.
