And then there was the Fender Mustang, which was cheaper (fittingly).

I had a CBS-era Stratocaster in the early '70s, and then an early Telecaster that had been tricked out for Jeff Beck by Seymour Duncan. I lent than one to a buddy who needed it for a gig, then never saw the guitar or the buddy again. At that point, I was doing engineering and some producing rather than playing sessions, so I never replaced it. I sold off my last acoustic around '87 and haven't played since. Life moves on...
