Hey All,
Just wondering if any of you remember what your top speeds were in the auto-x at the $20XX challenge over the last few years. Usually, we set up our cars for a 65-75 mph top speed, but this year I'm not sure we got up to speeds that high.
Was this a tighter course than usual, or about average?
Thanks!

Rumor has it that it was a fast course compared to the usual.

Never got out of 2nd so just under 60. But that was the e28 Iirc :38.01
i just autocrossed the XJ-R on a pretty big course hitting fuel cut and mathematically it tops out in 2nd gear at about 62 mph. i dont think alan hit fuel cut at the challenge but he probably got close. granted it was on a stock 4.0L jeep engine and one wheeling like crazy so straightline speed wasnt too great.
also our previous e30 is geared rather short and is often between 2nd and 3rd gear at our local events, but wasnt ever out of 2nd at gainesville.
The challenge courses are typically on the tighter side of the spectrum.
Awesome, thanks for the input!

I didn't hear that you hit fuel cut...were you not going to tell me this? haha

Must be banking on the hole method of telling you. And since there wasn't a hole.....
(WAY back, when it was fast, I was 8000rpm, rev limit, in 2nd gear- I think we thought that was 65-70- but that was on the track)
In reply to miatame:
greg and i were looking over the last datalog and we hit 5200rpm on that main runway which i'm pretty sure is where we set either ignition or fuel cut in MS. i could hear that jeep i6 screaming by that point, but without a tach i hadnt even thought about it until the end of the day, though i did remember on one or two runs it felt like i hit a wall in gear for a second or so which i'd imagine was a soft rev limiter.

More likely haha

Yeah, but how much gas did we have?!
We were hitting 3rd, (or, more accurately, Alan was hitting 3rd ) I think the 13's have killed us in that car, especially this year, where the auto-x was quite a bit faster than previous years from what I can tell. If you don't believe me, watch the videos from this year compared to others. Though the turd will probably (hopefully?) never return to the challenge, we've got a VX transmission we're considering throwing in, which, in theory, should help out with gearing at the drags if not on an autox course.

We were on the rev limiter in the ScAries quite a bit on that course in 2nd gear, which equates to about 65 or so mph. I made some fun runs with it and had it into 3rd a few times, which probably took me to 70+mph on that front stretch and the back stretch, but I suck...and my suckiness was reflected in my times.

Alan got in to 3rd gear on our runs as well. I don't know how fast he was going but i estimate it was probably 75+.
you can see the fun runs here the 2nd run is the one to watch:

Ha ha,thats was a lot of guys just to work on a hose clamp.
I don't know about you guys, but on my runs I hit a million and a half miles per hour.
Not sure how fast we were going but we ran the whole thing in 2nd and 3rd. Alan ran the whole thing in 3rd (including launching with the starter). Stock 5.0 and T-5 with 4.11 rear.
