So let’s say for the sake of argument I don’t want to run R-comps (i’m not enthusiastic about changing tires anymore). Can we come up with a faster setup on a 170 hp NB (VMax coilovers and stiff sways) than Advanti Storm 15x9 wheels (12.3 lbs) and 245/40 Rival S 1.5?
The 225 Rivals are about $150 cheaper for the set but you know how autocrossers are. Time to spend some money and be done with it.
That's the easy button. Press it.
Why go 15x9 when you can go 15x10 in a 6UL?

15x10 / 245 Rivals is probably as good as it gets under stock NB fenders for AutoX, short of Hoosiers.
In reply to ProDarwin : it’s swapped to an ecotec engine. Underprepped SSM or a local class we have as a catch-all: RTU Road Tire Unlimited.
The 245 rival S on a 15x10 has done me well this season.
I've been out of the auto-x scene for a while. Are people really stuffing 15x10 and 245s under unflared miata fenders?

On an NB with narrow-spring coilovers, you can do that with a good fender roll.
225/45 Hoosiers fit under my NA fenders on a 15x9 wheel. I'm debating pressing my luck and trying 245/40s.
Jeremy, you already know the answer to this. 245 rival S 1.5 are the way to go.
Sorta related: We're going to have BFGoodrich's Peter Calhoun on our live show tomorrow. Have tire questions? He'd be your guy.

Is $ a factor? So far I love my Firestone Firehawk Indy500s so much I bought a set for the WRX for street duty and maybe an occasional autocross. But then again I'm not chasing tenths.
Yep, since RE71Rs aren't available in your size, you've got the setup.
Tire wise, you need more spring/shock. FM makes great stuff, but when I swapped my VMax to the 800/500 BGK from 949..............I dropped two seconds on 1 year older tires.
My 01 sport came with 15x9 Storm S1 wheels and some 400 TW khumos. Fine for the street, and I'm going to autocross on them for this year (my first).
This discussion came up right on time, since I've been trying to find out what tires to buy next year for autocross. I see a lot of the locals running the Bridgestones, but I don't see them fitting these wheels. Looks like the Rival S 1.5 will be my choice.
Will the 245 fit on my nine inch wheels? Will I still have to fender roll?

Yeah, you will be rolling the fenders a little
