I think I can run faster than that thing can drive. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that era of Mercedes but the oil burners of that era are almost dangerously slow to run in modern traffic. 0-60 was clocked (i think by sundial) at 28.1 seconds. I believe it made 60 HP
Other than that, the rest of the car is pure awesome. I should have grabbed the 1971 280s I had a chance to get a couple years back.
Check it over for rust very carefully - these things can rust with the best of them.
I have driven a 4 speed 240d before, and below 70 it was really not much different than how you would normally drive in any other car if you pretty much drove it as fast as it would go. So if you can safely drive 70mph on the freeway and don't need to go up any big hills its probably fine. I haven't driven a 220d, but from what I have heard its pretty similar. If its not rusty id say get it.
