i know there are some automotive relays that have internal delay circuits, such that the load contacts do not open until some time after the control signal is removed.
what i need to know is the year / make / model for some OE applications of these, so I can scout some out in the junkyard.
as an example, there's one used for some AC function on some VW and Audi, (1998 - 2005 Passat and others?), identified by "384" on the top. the PN for that one is 8D0 919 578 A. it's an odd 6-pin design but i could make it work if i had to.
then there's a Hella part that cross-references to a Mercedes part number 2219066600, but i can't find the original application. this part also crosses to Volvo PN 15223967, but again i can't find an OE application.

Plug your part numbers into theRockauto part number search. You can get the applications from there.

I did that before I posted here. No specific application found for the Hella.
Volvo part number references to the L28F Skid Steer Loader.

98 to 2005 Passat and Audi A4

I know you older people have problems using the internet sometimes so I like to help when I can.

Roll your own with a 555 IC and a normal relay?

Nope, not me, not in this application.
Look at older automatic antennas. Or maybe cars with automatic shoulder belts - did those have time delays? I think so.

How long a delay are you looking for? What are you doing?
I have used the John Deere wzw1589. 0/900s 12v 30a made by Hella so you can probably cross reference from there. Overkill for what I needed since each device used 2a tops. Big problem I had was about half the parts I ordered were bad fakes that were falling apart. Now I just buy potted relay modules but they cost a fortune

I think about 60 seconds would be sufficient, but I'd like to be able to tune it. This will be to let the bilge fans on my header boxes run for a bit after engine shutdown. Draw is about 6A total. If I used an external timer I could put it on the control side of existing relay, so current draw shouldn't be an issue with that 5A device linked above.
That sounds a lot like a turbo timer.
