The Superformance GT-40 that competed at the UTCC may not have been the fastest car in the field, but it was the best looking. The look and sound made my knees weak!

BTW--- it was pretty darn fast, it just had some VERY stiff competition!

Hey Duke,

That's my Gulf GT40 sitting at the paddock at Willowsprings Raceway. I'm six foot tall and fit fine, even with a helmet on. BTW, in what issue did you see the photo of my car?

It's the 1966 Le Mans car from Holman-Moody. Brought home third in the Ford 1-2-3 that year with Ronnie Bucknum and Dick Hutcherson. It's gorgeous!

Why not build from scratch?

Race Car Replicas makes a fine GT40. The price tag is less "overtime dependent" as long as you know how to turn a wrench. Fran Hall, Ryan Ellis and the RCR team just won the NASA Super Unlimited Championship with their SL-C, they might now a thing or two about performance and reliability. If the GT40 is a poor fit, try the Lola, Porsche, Ferrari or Superlite flavors on for size.

If you're really interested, do yourself a favor and go check out Race Car Replicas in the Detroit area. Fran Hall is the owner and he's awesome. Incredibly friendly and will not hesitate to give you the walkthrough of the shop. He builds his own chassis so making you fit isn't an issue. You'll be amazed by all the different cars he builds.

The website needs to be redone, but they're too busy making super awesome cars.

Because all you tall people get everything else. Throw us some scraps every now and again, wouldja? Ever heard a woman say "Oh, I just love short men". No. Doesn't happen.

That was going to be my reply too. How about a Grand Sport Corvette?

Once you drive one you'll be hooked.

It's not the most traffic friendly vehicle, but an absolute hoot on the track.

Mine was a Boss 302 engined, spaghetti tubed wonder to the ears.

When I say Mine, I meant the one I drove, not that I could have afforded one.

I have nothing really to add but, just a couple days after I read this thread, I saw a GT40 replica on South Tryon Street in Charlotte, NC.
It was wearing the Gulf colors.

Do what my 6'6" high school buddy did when he drove his Bug Eyed Sprite with the top up. He leaned to the right and tilted his head at an angle 90 degrees from the norm. No problem.

I guess that's why he only put the top up if it was raining really hard or below 30 degrees. It's his fault that I've owned a dozen Bugeyes so far and 10s of Spridgets.

according to the faq on the superformance site, they dropped the seating position a little (2.5"!!) so almost anyone can fit with comfort.

The one I was in wasn't a Superformance and I'm 6' and even with a helmet height wasn't an issue.
