Now that I own a proper old guy's car, a Jaguar F-type, I read posts on the Jag forums. There's some talk that the high price of the Z06 could drive potential Corvette owners to consider the Jaguar F-type. With other car makes, I might agree, but I just don't see it with Corvette followers.  The brand is just so ingrained in America, I don't see how a potential buyer could not only turn their back on Corvette, but also switch to a non-domestic make. Yes, the F-Type has a beautiful shape and a 550-hp V8, but still.

I've been frequently wrong about human nature though... what do you guys think?

With the performance and power it has I can't see how this car wouldn't be cutting into the exotics pretty hard. I know a lot of Corvette people are thumbing their noses at it but it's just such an impressive car. I would think it would line up against McLaren or Ferrari better than a Jag or a previous Gen Vette.

Agreed. Ferrari is going to be trading on their brand even more with this thing out.

I can't wait to see this compared to a 458 Speciale or Huracan Evo. It doesnt have the raw power of the 720S or F8, but the ZR1 will handle that.

That's a chunka change, but still well under most other exotics at new pricing.  Looking forward to seeing some tests of this thing.

The biggest issue will be the crazy dealer markups, so it'll be a high 100s car for awhile. It won't eat into many exotic purchases, because a Ferrari guy wants a Ferrari, a Lamborghini guy wants a Lamborghini, etc. A Ferrari guy might buy a Corvette and keep the Ferrari, but it's not stopping him from buying the Ferrari in the first place.

I own a 911. Was with my family today and we saw a c8. I said maybe I'll get one of those and everyone with me said it was hideous. I'm in the PCA and I don't hear any c8 talk so I don't forsee any Porsche guys switching.

Good luck finding $40k markups, try $75k minimum, currently it's @$125k!

Is that what we're calling Mustangs these days?

So $200k+ for a Z06?

Starting to get out of reach of the "everyman".

Cant wait to see what this will do at the VIR Lightning Lap.

That's a lot of money, considering the base model with more-than-adequate 505hp theoretically started at $58k in 2020. Of course I doubt any sold for that low. Which makes me wonder: what has been the average non-Z06 selling price with ADM? Did any actually sell for MSRP? And does this engine really make a Corvette worth almost double?

In reply to maschinenbau :

I too wonder how much the base c8 (1LT?) are actually selling for. And what about lightly used c7 grand sports.

Looks like $50-70k depending on mileage. The previous generation corvettes really haven't picked up much value unlike the rest of the market.

Base C8 are currently at MSRP, maybe slightly above.  The C8 market dropped in the last few weeks.

Base price starts at $105k. That's only just more than halfway to $200k :)

Pretty serious hardware. Should be a proper missile on the track. Too bad most of them will only be driven back and forth to the local cars & coffee event each month.

Are they selling at/slightly above MSRP?

In reply to yupididit :

Yes, Base are selling at to $5k over, 3LT can be found for MSRP, but most are selling for $10k over. I don't think theyll go under MSRP for at least a year, but the $40k over days are gone. A lot of the "used" are sitting, and by used I mean the ones with 500 miles people bought to flip

That's good. 5k over is reasonable given what E36 M3 was. I've noticed a lot of auctions are no longer meeting reserve on normal cars.

There's a local high end used car dealership that is going to feel that. Current inventory includes a 2021 1LT 3LT Z51 with 8k miles and a $116k asking price and a delivery mileage 2023 Stingray "coming soon" for $120k.

Other C8s for sale in town: 500 mile 2023 Z51 for $110k, 2020 with 21k miles for only $93k. The Chevy dealer won't even put a price on the one in their showroom, it's like fresh fish and is listed as "market price".
