I'd say the growth in size is not ignorable, but the significance debatable. I just miss compact cars :/ The size keeps trending one way over the decades.

For anyone curious, plugging '[year] [model] dimensions' into google usually pulls up an edmunds link. Dunno how accurate edmunds is.

Yeah, unfortunately that's just how it goes. All the tech and safety equipment adds up, and people don't want to feel dwarfed by the now-humongous typical crossovers anyway. I don't know if there will ever be another 80's style "downsizing" movement but at times it feels like we are due for one.

FWIW, the Civic Hatch of the past 2 generations has been meaningfully shorter than the sedan, the 2022 hatch is only 179.0 in. I'm not sure on Edmunds' figures, but C&D lists the current Accord at 196.1 in, so I saw a difference of ~17.1 in. (mental math just rounded it to 18 but still not a small difference).

The Fit was really Honda's true spiritual successor to the beloved Civic of old, but we didn't buy enough of them, so we don't get it anymore while the rest of the world gets this...

It doesn't really matter to me that its shorter or lighter than a modern Accord. It's still the same size as a 90s Accord, which is too big to garner any interest from me. I used to really like Hondas. I owned 2 CRX's and loved them. I pined for years in the late 90s and early 00s for a CTR. For me Honda has lost their way. I'm sure this CTR is a nice car that will have decent performance specs and put down decent lap times, but for me personally there is no attraction. Honda has lost me as a customer, their cars IMO are so ugly and bloated now it's painful.

If you end up buying one I hope you enjoy it. At the very least I'm sure it'll do what Hondas typically do now, provide reliable transportation.

As far as all new cars being huge and bloated nowadays I would point to our perennial favorite, the Miata, which Mazda shrank and lightened for it's most recent generation. I get that people wont buy small hatchbacks now, I guess there isn't much to be done about that, but I know I vote with my $$$.
