Dad's stranded at my place and needs to get north within the next couple days to meet an appointment.

He's got a '94 Toyota Pickup, 22RE, 4WD, short wheelbase single cab.  The below is what his front u-joint on the rear driveshaft looks like.  Album of carnage is here https://imgur.com/a/K61QXBS

Here's what Rockauto has for a full driveshaft, it doesn't look like it matches what his looks like, the male and female sides of the slip joint are swapped. I can't find anything on the slip joint or anything else.  I'm still digging through resources, but I'm figuring that someone here probably knows offhand what these parts are and where to find them.

What really pisses me off is that in October a good shop that he and I have been going to for my entire lifetime dropped the ball and didn't catch this when they had to take the driveshaft down to replace the seal on the trans.  They kept telling him that the noise and vibration was likely bad tires.

Dang it. I just trashed that end of a shaft last week. It had been sitting in my garage for years after my 1uz swap. Sorry I can't help.

It happens.  I'd be happy enough to find the actual correct part number to start.

There's a couple driveshaft shops in the area, one owned by a former Marine.  I figure I'll let him and Dad grunt at each other in Jarhead-speak tomorrow and see if we can get anywhere

I think it's the other end because your picture looks like it's attached to 37315B.

Edit. No wait. That's on both ends. Is yours the slip end?

The slip end is the side that's borked.  The diagram looks like a driver's side view towards the center of the vehicle where I took pics of the passenger side.

Remove it and run it in 4wd. Front wheel drive pickup.

I thought about that as a possibility, but he needs to get at least 300 miles, couldn't guarantee it would be a happy camper that far.

Possible to just get one from the Toyodor dealer, or local junkyard?

In reply to einy :

We may have to do the dealer route.  We caught the issue today at about 1 as he was getting ready to drive on up.  Enough time to check the local yards that have their inventory online and find one possible vehicle with the driveshaft.  Driveshaft was not correct.

It was originally Grandpop's truck, he got a factory suspension lift on it and I think that it came with a semi-specialty driveshaft.

Do you have a driveshaft shop in town. There is a local place that will pretty much build whatever you want. I would bet they could replace the damaged end on that shaft in short order.

There are a couple of places that we are going to visit tomorrow.

Driveshaft shop will fix it in a day. They should be able to make something work easily.

Why on earth not? It's a toyota open diff and axles with presumably low miles being that few spend any real time in 4wd. Check the oil in the diff if you want to be thorough and run it for 400k miles like that.

Driveshaft Specialists, behind the nudie bar on Adamo Dr, Tampa.

Got in, showed them the damaged bits and they found used stock pieces, pressed in a new u-joint, we were out of there for parts and labor of about $80 and 30-45 minutes of time.

Good place, would return.

I can't quite tell the arrangement, but it's not the diff to worry about, it's the slip yoke trans that will be throwing oil out where the rear driveshaft normally is.

I've been to Tampa.  You have to be more specific than that.

Glad you got it all fixed.

Eyez Wide Shut, I believe.  One of the skeevy looking ones.

Found it amusing that a business owned by a former Marine was behind a nudie bar.

No slip yokes here. 4 bolts.

That's great!

I once had a friend who had a zr2 s10. It had an aluminum driveshaft from the factory that was worn out all over.  The replacement unit from GM was $800.  I told him to go to a driveshaft shop, like the big trucks use, hand them his old shaft and ask them to make a new one out of steel.  A local place in CT did it for $200.  Driveshaft shops are fantastic and wonderful places.
