A simple question amongst some of my coworkers and I:

What car (mostly stock, any era) represents the most fun you can get with a 4 cylinder engine?

Some obvious choices thrown about have been Miatas, turbo MR-2s, 3rd gen Civic Si, Evos, S-2000s, etc.

For my money it would be hard to beat a 2nd gen Impreza RS coupe... Still keeping to USDM, I'd like to hear some GRM input.

Any thoughts?

Hrm, that's a toughie. I'd have a hard time choosing between the Porsche 968, the Dodge Neon SRT-4, the Lotus Elise, and possibly the VW-based Meyers Manx.

I'd put my money on a Pontiac half-a-V8 194 though...

What about a Lancia Delta Integrale?

I like the sound of the Fiat, but for reliability, non-interference, turbo goodness - TurboFord...

GLHS is good, Alfa GTV, some of the little Fiat Abarth things from the 60s (1000tc for example).

the Fiat Twin Cam has one of those great sound tracks everyone seems to have forgotten. There is simply nothing like the sound of a Fiat TC at WOT and Redline. A unique combination of V8 Growl and ferrari scream.

and the Twin Cam is the same basic engine that is in the Delta Integrale, just made more civilized and having an extra 8 valves and a turbo hung off of the side.

But for most fun with 4 cylinders... I am either going 944/968 or S2000.. any engine that screams to 8400 rpms qualifies as fun

7even. hands down. Pedigree, performance, and just a riot, but that being said...I haven't driven any of them so I am willing for you to gather all the contenders and I will test drive them to confirm my bench racing opinion.

What is your favorite tool?

If you're a hammer person go for any fast fwd Chrysler product from 84-09 (Caliber SRT-4 is awful but definitely the 100lb block of lead on the end of a pipe type of hammer)

7 piece precision screwdriver set: Caterham R500
