Well I got a L28ET with trans and ecu for free this past weekend. Trying to decide what I should drop it in as I want a dedicated but street legal track car. First thought is the S30 but I think a race prepped S130 would be ar more unique. What say GRM?

S30 = 240/260/280Z. S130 = 280ZX. L28ET = exactly what it is, a 2.8L turbo, fuel injected, straight six.

An S130 would be "different" no doubt; the main benefit would be cost and uniqueness. Everything else is negative: very hard to find non-T-top cars, which are as stiff as wet noodles. They are also heavier than the S30 and the aftermarket is not as developed, especially anything restoration-oriented. You can very nearly build a "new" S30 off of a donor these days. Virtually NOBODY cares about the S130, so parts will be much harder to find, and new repro stuff is nonexistent. IIRC the S130 rear suspension bites the big one for any kind of track work, too. Either will rust horribly.

I guess I would ask what your goal is. Fastest car possible? S30. Most unique? S130. Just to have fun? Wait and see which pops up on CL for a great price quickest.

Well my DD/track is an all stock '79 280zx. It is non T-top but i feel like it handles fairly well. Would prefer an S130 but the lack of aftermarket does kill it abit. Plus a good S30 is nearly double what a good S130 goes for
