I have an XD (later bigger xa) which has been awesome. Great mileage, roomy. A bit noisy on the highway, and typical mcstrut handling were the only downsides. Has the same great engine as the Vibe and Corolla mentioned above.

I would just get the xB, no question.
Best fuel efficiency out all of them, bulletproof powertrain combo, very spacious interior for all passengers, excellent cargo room, lovely greenhouse visibility, and weighs notably low (we're talking Miata weight here)

I thought the xD had a funky rarely used 1.9L and not the 2ZZ
The xD did not have the 2zz. That engine ended with the Matrix XRS/Vibe GT twins.
