Now, it's not AWD, right? I'd thought about Mitsu but they're relatively rare and I thought only the EVOs got power to the rear too

A few years back, a friend tells me he bought a similar vintage Legacy GT. He had Subarus in the past, so he knows the deal. I jokingly tell him he'll be building a short block in a month. We laughed.

Just over a month later, he spun all the bearings and was building a short block. It's a wear item on these things like brake pads and rotors. 6 months after that, he sold it as soon as he mostly sorted out the swap.

They just aren't worth the trouble as good as they are when they are working properly.

So starting in 2007 there were some AWD Lancers. I've messaged 7 ppl within 250 miles of my house.

I'm down to five who haven't yet responded. The rest were all "no"

This is a 2004. Not AWD, just an open diff FWD. Next generation had some AWD lancers in addition to the Evos. All of that generation of Ralliart are AWD.

This wagon was only imported for one year, and only with a 4 speed automatic, but it's a pretty robust transmission and gearing is well matched to the torque curve.

So far the one that's responded affirmative to AWD is this 2011 ES for $4350

ES is CVT, right? Is that bad news in Mitsu, too?

I like that Infiniti. I bet the rebuilt title was for vandalism, that interior damage is almost certainly vandalism. Look at the "X" cut in the headliner, looks like someone went after it with a box cutter.

AWD Fusion, cheap

Good find, John. He's had it for 12 years. Seems like the kind of seller I want. "Burns a quart every 3k miles" is that a huge deal on these V6s?

Another, a bit newer, 2010 Milan awd with less miles at 110k.  Higher trim level but asking more, $5,900.

The interior is the nice tan and black combo.  It is sort of rare and could be harder to find a matching driver's seat.  But, in just black leather, I bet you could have a whole replacement driver's seat for just $100.

In reply to John Welsh :

Can't do that price. MAYBE approaching $5k in order to get newer/nicer, but at that jump from $3 I'll be re-evaluating ALL of the kinds of cars I'm looking for.

It's nice he spent so much time cleaning the thing up, it makes for a nice look when the car presents as well as it possibly can.

Right. I think I'll end up passing on it if for no other reason than that BMWs seem to be sensitive about maintenance and clearly that's not his thing.

in other news, I feel like I am finding myself suddenly reevaluating all of the car models I have passed on before for good reasons. Mitsu seems like the option right now, if I can get any kind of word that the CVT isn't a grenade.

Either that or the Fusion, but since I've yet to see a Fusion do dirt-focused play I think that would rule out any rally-ish motorsporting in my immediate future

Take the car to the local park for some pleasant pictures.  Buying from this front yard makes me apprehensive.

It does seem counter intuitive to call list Subarus as maintenance intensive (agreed) while looking at near 200k BMWs.  And, 4wd BMWs at that.

I think someone on here has/recently had one? I just know they can be found cheap with a stick still in somewhat decent shape because no enthusiast following at all.

Can't be worse than a ragged Subaru or BMW lol.

Depending on the wife's verdict, I may go check it out this evening. She's even more death on MI rust than I am.

Okay, GRM, any advice on the ABS issue? I always go optimistic and assume it's a wheel speed sensor but that's how I'm poor.

The cars posted on here are REALLY just begging for some GRM$2k/Top Gear-style ridiculous AWD-centric challenge. I just wanna see what they can take as-is. What a fun weekend that would be!

It wouldn't hurt to have a little bit of odds favoring, too, given the craigslist photos, like the one above. Four parts to the competition, up to four drivers splitting the cost? What's there not to love??

Salesman on that 2011 Lancer said AWD, VIN says that's false. It was the only positive of the list so yeah, Jag is looking like more of an option
