There is definitely a time and place for electronic music. I like some of it; Sasha is good, Josh Money, Above & Beyond..The kind of electronic music I usually listen to is more along the lines of Gotan Project or Bent.

Mice Parade, although entirely acoustic, follows some of the same structural styles a lot of electronic music does. Its very cool. I rarely see live music, but I saw them some time ago and it was pretty awesome.

Here's a blast from the past-anyone remember Nizer Ebb or Die Krupps?

Never got into them. That was around the time I saw Ministry a couple of times (I had a friend in college who worshiped them)

The only songs I've ever stopped a car to listen to are Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Blue on Black and Kraig Kenning's Sonic Blues

I usually have no clue what you guys are talking about in music threads. Anyway I like a lot of different music but lately I've been listening to a lot of proper psy & goa. I tend to go on 'kicks' for certain styles of music that last a few weeks or months... Any other fans of this stuff here? What are you listening to? I keep coming back to these guys. I discovered them probably almost ten years ago and they've been improving ever since. Some of their more recent stuff practically blew my mind. So complex, so atmospheric, so many layers... I remember the first time I heard "The Path" (downloadable off that page), I'd saved it onto a memory stick and was playing it on a road trip. I had to stop the car and just listen, it demanded 100% of my attention and it got it. Helps that I was driving my old Celica at the time which had one of the best factory stereos ever. Right now I've got their Summer Mix 2010 going in Winamp... Starts off a bit nuts-and-bolts, just Synsun doing their thing, but it gets really cool around 50 minutes in. I still want to hear them live sometime but it doesn't look like they're doing any events near me anytime soon. Too bad...

I just realized that you had the System 10 stereo in your Celica, didn't you.....

That IS one of the best factory systems EVER, and one of the main reasons why i would LOVE to replace my MX6 with a 90-93 Celica GTS for a daily.

I'm going to go through this over the weekend. Sounds like we have similar taste. I agree, the real songs are the ones I like. A few that have really hooked me over the last couple of years:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzSaQdYgDw4 (ug, sorry, that's an editied version, but you get how beautiful it is)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yftOy8kz7aE That's the woman from Cocteau Twins doing the vocals. Amazing.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3lJwyQ_2Qg That, of course, is David Byrne on vocals. I love this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrzcgU-1rYk I played this one over and over again all the time for about three months a few years back.

http://www.vbox7.com/play:86104f22?r=google I don't know what that sample is, but it's really good and they used it amazingly well. That whole CD is outstanding.

One more- great, great song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTpky_UCNXc

If anyone has similar songs I'd love to get more.

I try to find and post the stuff I like to listen to - I grew up on 80's new wave, and still have a soft spot for synthpop. In high shool, I was lucky enough to have an independent radio station in my town. I became a big fan of the Cocteau Twins and other indy bands that had that sound, like Lush, Slowdive, Catherine Wheel, The Cranes, and Curve. Trip-hop was also making it to these shores at the time, and I got all the CD's I could find from Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky, Hooverphonic and DJ Shadow/Unkle.

Electronica had some commercial success here in the states while I was in college, and for a little while you could find great songs by The Prodigy, BT, Crystal Method, Orbital and Fatboy Slim on mainstream radio. After college I became a big fan of vocal trance, so you'll find a lot of Iio, Kaskade, Aruna, ATB and Dash Berlin at Stop the Disco. Last year dubstep exploded onto the scene, so you'll find a little of that too.

Not really trance/goa/techno, but pretty cool stuff none the less... Little People "Star Shootin"

They have that kinda kick back chill sound, but at the same time has the bass track down that can really keep ya motivated and "in the zone"...their other song "Basique" is pretty cool too...

As for the OP, stuff like Hallucinogen "Snarling Black Mabel" , or GMS's "Houston We Have a Problem", and stuff like Infected Mushroom's "Psycho" catch your ear at all?

A buddy of mine turned me onto these guys recently: http://illegal-art.net/allday/

PS>should be downloaded or listened to in such a way that it is a continuous track or at least a gapless album.

Why is it that every one thinks that Techno/Electronic music started in the late 80's. I started listening to this in 75 or 76 when it was released over here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68C-r9kSLNE&feature=related This is the original Techno band

lol, because we weren't born yet? I'm familiar with Kraftwerk, but I'm a bigger fan of the synth music I listened to growing up.

A friend of mine from middle & high school recently moved to NYC to lead an electro band. Their first EP is just being released, but I'm already a fan: http://stopthedisco.tumblr.com/tagged/the%20gold%20party

My only complaint about your site, nderwater, is that after years of making fun of people who like Dubstep, you've managed to come up with at least 4 examples that make me eat my words.
