So far in my life I've been an index fund guy, and it has worked pretty well.

But now I'm reading "the intelligent investor" (Benjamin Graham, who is Warren Buffett's mentor), and therefore I'm interested in different things than I have been in the past. Also, I think my risk tolerance is contracting, maybe because I'm growing up into a grumpy old man.

Anyway, I'd love to get like a giant excel download of all the stocks in the NYSE with zillions of columns of data on each one so I can run my analysis. Columns most important to me are things like current price, market cap, book value, dividend, dividend history, industry or sector, assets, debt, etc. Anyone know where or how to get something like that?

Barring that, how and where else would you look for this info?

I have a couple of sites saved on my work computer that you may find interesting. I'll post them on Tuesday when I log in.

Yahoo Finance is a good go to for at least some basic info.  It's what I go to idea I want some quick info on a stock.  Brokerages (e.g. Schwab) will of course have their own tools.

It's not research per se, but sink or swim from tda is what I use to trade.

Ok, I don't have exactly what you're looking for. But, some interesting resources that may be of value to you:

  • https://stooq.com/db/h/ Gives you text files, daily, hourly, or 5 minute breakdowns. The daily breakdowns go back at least to the 90's; the 5 minute breakdowns are a month or two of data. Problem with this, is that each individual stock is its own .txt file. That said, all of them download at once in a zip file. Somebody could definitely write a script to get it all pretty in Excel.
  • https://finviz.com/screener.ashx?v=111&f=sh_avgvol_u50,sh_curvol_o200 - this is just a stock screener. I like it for entering different metrics to see whats out there and potentially finding diamonds in the rough.
  • https://eoddata.com/download.aspx - I think this is the closest to what you want, but you can only download one day at a time. Need to register for it.
