I know that the Rev said he isn't planning on building one of these for another year, but if anyone else is anxious to get started, I have four pairs of used Heavy duty Iron Ductile Swing Hangers.

Bump. Guess what I'm building Sunday?

Where the legs of the 4x4s meet the ground, did anyone do anything special? I don't think I need concrete, or even gravel. A co-worker has his on a pile of packed clay. Any tips here?

I used a DIY hardware kit and scavenged most of the lumber. It had 2 swings and a cross bar, but it just sat on the ground, no concrete. Kids loved it. I second the recommendation from Mazduece, hang them high, it's a lot more fun.

I have mine right on the ground, but I used cedar 4x4s so they won't rot. I did use a laser level to measure the irregularity of the ground and then cut each post to a slightly different length, so that everything would be level up top.
