There go the rest of my plans for the day. Going from low 90s and muggy to big, fat drops of 60 degree water falling out of the sky and soaking you to your bones while you try to put away tools isn't refreshing.

Yes, that's marine-grade plywood, bonded together, creating a sixties-era composite monocoque for the Marcos.

I've never seen one with the extra cockpit bump. How many of them have that? I saw the one at the Udvar-Hazy Center years ago and the darn thing seemed to absorb all the ambient light. It was tough to get a picture of.

I showed my wife this insane rocket powered S-type jag, and her first words were, "Is this one of those GRMers?"

Three. There were two B model trainers. One crashed. So to they made the C model trainer by taking the wing section of the first YF-12 interceptor which had crashed,  and mated it to the forward fuselage of the SR-71 static test model. It ended up being built bent, resulting in built in yaw at supersonic speeds resulting in the nickname  "The Bastard." The Air Zoo's SR is the surviving B model.

That's no rocket.  That looks to be a pulse jet, and based on the size, it would be EXTREMELY loud, as in sticks of dynamite going off 10 times a second loud!

And yes, I could see someone bringing that to the $2022 challenge (and promptly being kicked out for massively violating sound regs, and just common decency really).  I thought it looked familiar.  It's the car they build in one of the episodes of the second iteration of Monster Garage.

Same basic engine as the V1
