Well, it's *still* a very good idea to be doing that periodontal sounding (way better than, "stab, poke, wiggle", haha) every single year.  The plastic thing works, just not as well or as accurately...

I love my 3D scanner.  It's a super cool piece of tech and I can hopefully save my patients a visit to the specialist by taking the scans in my office

Just experienced one of those on Monday. Holy E36 M3 that's amazing. As a tech junkie who DESPISES dentist offices (nothing personal, I have bad teeth and have had some really E36 M3ty dentists through the years) that scanner was a game changer.

Last time I was at the dentist, 10.5 years ago, they were still doing the "stab poke wiggle" method on EVERY tooth. This time, just a plastic poker with colored bands to check the gums.

Depending on the scanner, that's the reason my one uncle is very rich now. Super smart guy

Had a root canal two weeks ago and a crown installed yesterday, just in case anyone was curious.  The original tooth was infected (dunno how or why) so that didn't help matters any.  Mighta been related to the original crack/problem.

Because it was cracked.  At the time of initial visit it probably needed it too, but in the abscence of direct evidence and symptoms, most practitioners, including me, will wait and see.  Would rather give the tooth a chance....
