I'm with you on that 100%. I have 2 degrees, 20 years apart, from UNC & have never liked dook. I even worked a dook for a few years in the early '70s.
I started hating dook when christian laetner stomped A. Timberlake in '93.
I met him about 10 years ago. Actually a nice guy in person. I didn't realize who he was until afterwards or I might have said something.
I feel a little guilty for using a long-reliable Swiss Army knife to open the package of the Swiss Army knife that will replace it.

Rambler! That seems to be the most useful of the small Swiss Army knives. Been carrying one for years.
I just went halves on a donor for a car that neither one of us owns.

View it as training the new guy before retirement.
Our barn kittens are very sick. I've been treating them with my wife the veterinarian. High fever loss of appetite, lethargy.
John Prine came on the radio while I was sitting with them, and I pretty much totally decompensated.
they weren't really supposed to be pets.

My supercharged Miata has a 6-speed with 3.63:1 gears these days, and part of me thinks that 5-speed with the 3.63:1s would be wild (70mph second gear? Yes, please) but I've had transmissions out of that car I think 5 times and I really just can't stomach the thought of doing it again.
I warned people about (thing) happening in our Test environment, and got limited engagement from other teams. So yeah, I'm going to skip the meeting to troubleshoot the broken things, because I can't fix any of the things that broke, and the people who can have ignored 2 months of weekly discovery meetings.
My mom thinks I'm the worlds greatest expert on computer problems but all I do is start to google her problem as she's talking and by the time she gets done describing it I have a web page with screenshots allowing me to describe exactly what she's seeing.

A little IT not so secret is that's true of pretty much every computer "expert." Even programmers. Knowing what to look for and how to apply the solution is how everyone gets things done!

But think of how many more times you would get to do transmissions if you had a 5 speed!

It did originally have a 5-speed in it. But it blew up the first year I had the supercharged 1.8L in it. Not because of horsepower does though. It had the lowermost bolt on the input shaft plate randomly rattle loose (I'd never touched them and all the others were right) and drain all the fluid into the bellhousing, also junking my new clutch. Oh, and it did it 900 miles from home and the Miata was my ride home
Part of me is miffed because I keep getting outbid on LEGO auctions. There is a certain satisfaction knowing I'm costing the rat bastard money by bidding up the high bid.

Smoothcases seem to love to loosen up bolts. My main failure mode is the bolts that hold the center bearing plate in backing out. They are loaded under tension when under acceleration, and when they back out, the mainshaft can rack back and forth, causing the trans to pop out of gear.
Also causes 1st's driven gear to grind on the center plate.
Confession: I have an '81 transmission that I rebuilt sitting on the shelf. The trans in my '81, apparently original, is not racking and shifts great, but it fills the gear oil with aluminum dust, so something bad is going on in there. I do not feel like swapping transmissions either.

As of this evening, the stronger of the two (Orla, the fluffy one) seems to have come out the other side of this, but she's showing neurological signs-- head tilt, turns better one way than the other. The neuro signs were worse than they are now, but they get worse again if agitated.
The other kitten (black and white, Dart) may not make it. She was always the weaker sister. Had her in my lap for an hour and a half tonight and put her to bed like a rag doll. Gutted.
Whatever this is, it's pretty nasty viral stuff-- temperatures up to 106 and the neuro effects afterwards. My wife's best working theory is that it's consistent with cases of avian flu seen in cats, and we just had a dead wood duck show up at the barn before this started.

The last time I drained and filled the fluid on my 6-speed, it had more metal flake in the fluid than it should of. I handled it in the most adult way possible: I pretended I didn't see it and filled it with fresh fluid and have continued to flog the daylights out of it.

Dart didn't make it through the night

I get paid decent money to do that every day, just don't tell anyone.

So sorry to hear that. My condolences.

Collectibles have gone full retard. I have a few advantages that allow me to get stuff, but secondary market is not for the faint of heart. I wish I had known the 1989 batmobile was going NLA.
