The Delorean is cooler IMO. But I had to get this picture because I noticed, while putting the engine back together, hey there is a shift pattern on the knob! You can't see it while driving.

On the CIS cars they used an oxygen sensor to change the idle via a solenoid. This was to help the cars pass emissions.

To let you know when to replace the sensor, they would turn the light on at a preset amount of miles via a box tied into the speedometer cable or system.

Enterprising folks would eliminate the system and/or pull the bulb. Some would even reuse the light as a shift light.
