And just like that, here we go again.

I am leaving Tuesday morning but my kids are staying with my parents. Might have to leave the house ready just in case.

The track had it going right over us. Yay! I get home from the runoffs Monday night. Guess I'm prepping all day Tuesday.

Yup, watching the forecast now. And from Tampa, right across to our side of the state.

Landed in SW FL on Friday to prep my house for sale, looks like I'm doing hurricane prep instead.

This whole place is still saturated and we have rain every day till Milton arrives. Feels kinda like Irma.

The mood of the people seems to be between exasperation and fetal crouch.

Milton is looking quite bad. Its only moving at 6mph, which means it will take a long time to move through and dump a bunch of water.

I am considering leaving south Florida Monday night to avoid the traffic of people leaving Tampa.

Im North Florida right now.  Was about to get on the road to head home to St Pete.

Wondering if there is even any point.

Mom is leaving Tampa tomorrow to spend time looking at Ontario fall leaves rather than sit out another storm. One brother is leaving AGAIN from St Petes where he live near the waterfront and another brother is staying put in Pinellas Park. I am going to worry about all of them.

I don't know how you all do this year after year. Living in Fl goes directly against my signature.

Meanwhile, here in Phoenix we haven't had rain in months.

It's just opposite disasters, with one in slow motion and the other Hollywood-style.

lol, and we had 70+ mph winds yesterday and a bunch of cigarette ignited prairie fires. I guess not to be confused with a Derecho evidently because ours wasn't associated with a thunder storm, just dry high winds.

The City of Tampa has opened all of its parking garages for free so residents can get their cars up out of the way.

An unexpectedly nice thing to hear.

My side of town is taking this one serious. Everyone is out of water, per usual, and propane. Panickers gonna panic. I know my house won't flood, my back yard slopes down far enough I would have to have feet of storm surge for it to be a problem and I live in. Longwood. This is shaping up to be a lot like Ian was for me, which was mostly a non-issue other than power.

Actually it DOES happen every year. It is called "hurricane season" and last about six months. To me it comes across as standing in front of a bullseye while a blind man tries to hit the target.

I hope you're right. The analysis that I just watched had increased the predicted strength and size substantially. We've just seen that a category four (the current prediction) that moves across saturated ground can still maintain energy.

I just left Florida, but Mr. Asa is right.

Florida itself is impacted nearly every year, but only small portions of Florida are hit in any given year.

If you're trying to avoid major adverse weather events in the next 100 years or so...it's gonna be tough no matter where you live.

What the hell is with the pedantry on here lately?  Feels like you cant say anything without getting fact checked.

My man, I was born here.  I've lived here every year that I wasnt in the military stationed elsewhere, and I've always had family here.  I know when hurricane season is, and unless somehow you live in every county of the state it isn't every year that you have to deal with one.  Additionally, if you don't live on the water then you usually don't need to worry about hellacious damage.

Its when the hurricane wanders into an area that isnt prepared for it that you see the carnage of Asheville.

If you live in Florida you pretty much know the score and know how and when to prepare, but this is still going to be a devastating punch for the most populated area of the west coast.

And as much of a tragedy as they'll have this week, the real tragedy will be ongoing as insurance company after insurance company starts slow-rolling payments, then stiffing customers, then closing their doors (or, more accurately, canceling their PO boxes).

Luckily my current insurance company is very good and loves me and has been texting me all weekend to remind me to gather supplies and use my handy insurance company app to tell them how much I love them and that they'd NEVER leave me hanging and it will be different this time, baby, I've changed, that was the old me, you'll see, just give me a chance.

It might actually be good for the Florida environment if more folks think it is a bad place to live.  Just saying.  wink  I have only lived in Florida 75 years... the changes I have seen.

20 and 30 year old building codes are now out-of-date.

I'm worried that a lot of the Asheville folks don't have flood insurance.
