We all have that racing game that we played for hours ... months ... years. What's yours?

I played a lot of the arcade game Daytona when I was supposed to be in college.

Horizon 4, by hours.

Original need for speed most wanted or underground 2 for most enjoyment.

It's probably a tossup between Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and Sega Rally 2. Both great games to play split screen on a projector.

I have 12120 official laps in iRacing, with probably equal or greater numbers in practice and leagues that aren't tracked.  If you go by the time spent in SteamVR, I probably have ~7000 hours on track.

Assetto Corsa.  I don't want to know how many hours, but a lot.

Rally Championship 2000. A full recreation of the British Rally Championship with no easy mode - full length stages with no mid-stage save capability, car damage with limited time to repair at service, properly modeled hazards, even night stages where your lights would start to flicker if you beat up the car too much or you could lose your light pod in a crash.

The only video game that really makes me sweat.

After that, the original Colin McRae Rally or the original Gran Turismo.

The sim group here started with Gran Tourismo many years ago.  We eventually moved over to Project Cars 2 (before GT Sport killed the GT6 servers), then moved over to Assetto Corsa (PC 3 was an S show).  That represents many hours and many races.

Steam says only 320 hours, so maybe not that much.

From a series perspective it would be Gran Turismo with Need for Speed in second.

Individual game would probably be either Gran Turismo 4 or Simbin's GT-R

But the list of games / sims is so long over the years.  Here's some others that I can remember spending good amounts of time on:

iRacing

Live4Speed

GT-R 2

GT Legends

rFactor / rF2

Project Cars 1/2

Assetto Coursa

BeamNG

Mario Kart

IndyCar Racing (1993) by Papyrus Design Group MS-DOS game

I like Dirt for the Rallycross, rFactor and GTR-2 were my go to as well because of all the mods I logged a lot of hours. Project Cars 1/2 and assetto corsa I play occasionally. I own Gran Turismo 6 but never got to deep into, it's lost it's luster over the years, same with iracing I am not a huge online player because I don't have much time to devote. The latest F1 games are okay, I do like to play them but wish you could go more rogue with the gameplay, like developing crazy parts, new teams ect...

Years of my life were a lost to this game as well as the Papyrus NASCAR games of the early 2000s.   Recently (the last 10-12 years) The same as Aircooled. I started the online series with the people here on GRM so it was several variants of GT.  I then took a break as PC1 was not for me but when PC2 came out I was all in.  I Really liked that Sim.  For the last couple of years, it has been Assetto Corsa.  Mostly because I host 2 servers for the GRM group now and I do a fair amount of testing of cars and tracks for potential series ideas as well as testing other things that people find and suggest.  It can be a huge time suck but it is lots of fun.

I absolutely loved that game and played way too much back in the day.

Also played too much GT4, GT5, GT6, PC2, and now Assetto Corsa with a dabble of iRacing and ACC.  Now that I type it all out I think I might have a bit of a problem...

In reply to Tom_Spangler (Forum Supporter) :

Me too. I was online and actually ranked pretty high in the stock category.

I went by "rule" and all my cars were white.

I got my start in NFS high stakes. I had the corvette and it was pink. Got lots of flack for being Barbie pink but eventually I earned respect.

Good times. When I'm in a nursing home I look forward to reliving it again.

Project Gotham.  It's the only reason I have an X-Box (original).  My ex- and I played that game a ton when it first came out.

I bought a Playstation some years ago so I could get the game that has the Nurburgring in it and I played it for a month or so.

Otherwise, I haven't touched any of my game consoles in years. I might play them more if I can set up a dedicated tv and room for them, but that's not possible right now.

I have resurrected my PS2 and GT4 so my 8 year old nephew can play it. He doesn't care if the game is an antique. He doesn't know any different :)

In the original PS1/Gran Turismo days, we used to hijack the conference room to play head-to-head GT after work on a 12' screen. Them's some big pixels, but we were having too much fun to care.
