Does anyone have a recommendations for gas cans that can be stored upright under a tonneau on a full size truck? I'm looking to upgrade my existing "spillproof" ones with ones similar to the 5 gallon VP racing jugs, but these will not fit under the tonneau cover on my Ram 1500.
You might look at the Roto Pax line of fuel storage options.
Lots of off road types use them and there seem to be several options.

Maybe Scepter military 5 gal cans? IIRC these are a little shorter than a VP style jug. With the EPA trying to eliminate any fuel cans that actually work, I'm not sure if you can still get them in the US...
We have Rotopax in my truck beds and on roof racks on SUV - no issues, been using for years.
Did you find anything? I use the old USMC/Blitz style, although they are long since obsolete and kind of fiddly compared to NATO pattern cans that are better in almost every way. You can still get new NATO pattern cans from milsurp outlets if that works for you:

No canoe. I have purchased a few things from Coleman's and been happy with them. They have spouts for these cans, but no mounts or carriers that I see, although those can be sourced elsewhere if you want to lock the cans down in the truck.
I use the standard always-spill 5-gallon cans and replaced the spouts with the ones linked below. The can fits under the tonneau on my ram 2500 and the spouts are flexible enough to bend down to be under it.

Wavian makes new jerry (metal Nato style) cans, complete with spilling spouts.
My buddy uses the standard VP 5 gallon jugs under a tonneau in his Ram 1500, maybe the cover allows more height?
The Midwest metal Jerry cans from Harbor Freight ( have 4) are good ones and they just fit under the low profile tonneau cover on my Nissan Frontier, so will do more than fine on a full size. About half the price of the Wavian Jerry cans and about just as good. I just replace the caps with good sealing solid ones off Amazon and use siphon/transfer setup for fueling - much easier and faster than hand pouring.

These are probably way bigger than you need, but I figured it couldn't hurt to share:
