Sure, the team that finishes first overall at this year’s $2000 Challenge will receive some fabulous prizes, like a big trophy, a fancy winner's jacket and $1000 in cash from eBay Motors. But we'll still have plenty to give away to everyone else on the podium–and even those whose car somehow doesn’t survive the event (shocking, we know).

For 2021, the $2000 Challenge takes place at Florida's Gainesville Raceway October 22-23. Just as in previous years, it will be composed of an autocross session, drag racing and a concours event.

Here’s the breakdown of everything you–yes, you–could win:

  • $2000 Challenge Champion: a big trophy, a fancy winner's jacket, $1000 in cash from eBay Motors, a welding table from Miller Electric, an XXL Replacement tank from Titan Fuel Tanks, a universal turbo from Maxpeedingrods, and four free tires from Valino Tires.
  • 1st in Drags (fastest E.T): a trophy and a universal turbo from Maxpeedingrods.
  • 1st in Concours: a trophy and a CRC SmartWasher BenchtopPRO® bioremediating benchtop parts washer designed for the small repair shop or home garage.
  • 1st in Autocross: a trophy and a ThermApparel UnderCool cooling vest, which keeps drivers cool without any hoses or ice chests.
  • 2nd and 3rd Overall: a trophy for each.
  • 2nd and 3rd in Concours: a trophy for each.
  • 2nd in Autocross: TBA.
  • 3rd in Autocross: a trophy and a certificate for a KeeniTop from GJR Racing.
  • 2nd and 3rd in Drags: a trophy for each.
  • Most Spectacular Failure: an award for being the most awesome disappointment of the year.
  • Best Auction: honors for being the highest-scoring car purchased at auction.
  • Best Engineered: honors for being the Grassroots Motorsports staff's pick for most ingeniously engineered car.
  • 1st on 200tw+ Tires: honors for placing highest with a car running 200tw-or-higher tires for the duration of the event.
  • Editors’ Choice: honors for being the Grassroots Motorsports staff's overall favorite entry.
  • Challengers’ Choice: honors for being the $2000 Challenge participants' overall favorite entry.
  • Phil Kime Spirit of the Event Award: honors for the person or team that fully embodies the $2000 Challenge spirit.

  • Rookie of the Year Award: honors for the highest-placing first-timer.
  • Longest Drive Award: an XXL Replacement tank from Titan Fuel Tanks for the $2000 Challenger who tows/drives the longest distance from home to the event.
  • Best Reaction Time: honors for best reaction time on the quarter-mile.
  • Last Chance Award: honors for the highest-placing car acquired no more than 10 days before the first day of the event; car shall be purchased from general public, not another Challenge team.
  • High School Award: honors for the highest-placing car predominantly built by high schoolers.
  • Old Guy Class: a trophy and a certificate for a KeeniTop from GJR Racing for the highest-placing car predominantly built by people 55 or older.
  • College Class: honors for the highest-placing car predominantly built by college students.
  • $1000 Class: honors for the highest-placing car built for half the allowed budget—$1000—or less.
  • Stock Block Class: honors for the highest-placing car with the OEM (or duplicate replacement) engine block.
  • Parking Lot Class: honors for the highest-placing car with the majority of its prep completed in the parking lot of the host hotel.
  • CAM Class: honors for the highest-placing car that meets the SCCA’s Classic American Muscle rules during the autocross and drag race; all CAM sub-classes are eligible.
  • RADwood Class: a trophy for the highest-finishing vehicle that would be at home on a RADwood showfield; period-correct dress is strongly encouraged, as are period-correct themes and accessories. Learn more about RADwood here.
  • Fastest Valve Cover: honors for the winner of the $2000 Challenge Valve Cover Race.

Wait you get $1000 AND a free turbo???

We're giving away two free turbos??

I'm hearing that if you can win the drag race and the overall event, you could build a sweet twin turbo $1000 entry....
