The postponement of the 2020 Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals does have a silver lining: more time to sort through those parts to sell or more time to detail the car for one of the many displays.

The event has been rescheduled for August 14-16, with all events on track to take place.

Still have plans to make it out? Let us know below.

CARLISLE IMPORT & PERFORMANCE NATIONALS RESCHEDULED
New Dates – August 14-16, 2020

Carlisle, PA – Due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic and with the health and safety in mind of the Carlisle community, Carlisle Events staff as well as event guests and business partners, Carlisle Events has POSTPONED the Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals benefiting Driven to Cure.  This event was originally scheduled for May 15-17.

The NEW, rescheduled dates for the Import & Performance Nationals are August 14-16, making this the latest this show has ever been held at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds.  The new event date also shifts the pre-registration/10% Gate-N-Go deadline savings to July 13.

While the show has a new late summer date, it’ll maintain many of its same great content.  This includes special displays like 100 Years of Mazda, 50 Years of the Nissan/Datsun Z, the race paddock, French car display in Building R and more.  Further competitions remain, including drift limbo, drifting and autocross via NICOFest, low car limbo and burnouts.  Also remaining in place is the charitable tie-in with Driven to Cure.  DTC is a non-profit 501 (c3) established to help raise awareness and provide funding for the research of rare kidney cancers like Hereditary Leiomyomatosis and Renal Cell Cancer (HLRCC) in children and young adults.  A portion of participant dollars benefit DTC.

Historically, this event is our first specialty show of the season, truly jump-starting the car show excitement at Carlisle,” noted Carlisle Events co-owner Bill Miller.  “So many things are changing daily with this global pandemic and we feel it’s best for the safety and health of all involved to transition the show from its original May dates to the new August 14-16 dates,” continued Miller.  “We’ll continue to follow all guidelines and directives set forth by relevant parties as well as state, local and national officials.   Car shows WILL happen at Carlisle again soon and for our regular Import & Performance Nationals guests, I look forward to seeing everyone in Carlisle August 14-16, 2020.”

Ultimately, offering a safe and fun environment for everyone is THE most important part of this new event date.  Finally, spectator tickets, registrations of all types including Showfield, vendor spaces, etc. will be honored for the new dates.

During this event, as well as others on the schedule, Carlisle Events will continue to be proactive from a health and sanitation standpoint within the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds and Carlisle Expo Center.

  • Carlisle Events and its neighboring properties will be adding additional sanitizer stations to the food court, entry gates AND guest services.
  • ALL ticket takers and hand stampers will be offered gloves and hand sanitizer that is 60% (or greater) alcohol.
  • Carlisle Events has secured a disinfectant from the suggested CDC list that quickly kills viruses and bacteria. This, combined with portable hand sprayers will be utilized in bathrooms, food court, vendor services, guest services and within the Carlisle Expo Center as part of auctions and third party events.
  • Make available disinfectant wipes and sanitizer at ticket booths, vendor services and guest services.
  • Communicate these measures to our guests, staff and business partners.
  • Additional measures and suggested healthcare guidelines are available on the CDC web page.

August is going to be a busy month here in Carlisle.  Hoping to get the boys out to a few events this year.  Need to get more shows to have the parade that the Ford and Corvette shows have.  Not sure if my fellow Carlislians would agree, but my boys absolutely love that! (Seriously a day after the Corvette parade they were asking when the next one was, and were very disappointed that they had to wait almost a whole year.  They are 4.)

Yep, that whole week is screwed up for me.  Was April vacation for my kid.  Senior year of high school.  Was going to head down on Friday and drop her off at Dickinson College in Carlisle.  She received a generous scholarship offer from them and her cousin is a freshman there this year.  Wife and the girls would spend Saturday doing girl stuff while I hit the fairgrounds.  Plan was to leave my daughter there for a few days.  Wife and I were going to drive to Myrtle Beach for a few days.  Buddy of mine has a second house there, and I was going to watch him renew his wedding vows on Monday.  I was in his wedding 25 years ago.

This unfortunately solidifies that I won't be able to make it this year. Our kid is due within a couple of weeks of the new date, so a 9+ hour (one way) trip just won't be in the cards around then.

As predicted, the Imports at Carlisle was rather subdued this year. Attendance was light. Social distancing was sporadic and rules were not really enforced. But all things considered, I got out of it what I wanted. I saw some neat cars and got to hang out with a few of my Spitfire friends.

I wore the appropriate attire:

There was a really nice looking psuedo Ferrari 250 that was built on a Austin Healy chassis and running gear.

It was really well done.

Naturally, the vendor area was especially sparse this year, but I still found some parts I've been looking for: a pair of GT6 hub and axle assemblies for $75.

Three Spitfires attending at the North American Spitfire Squadron tent, plus another in the DVT chapter area.

The weather was surprisingly good. Breezy and overcast for most of the day with temps in the 70s to 80s. A little bit of drizzle as we were leaving, but not a big deal. For mid-August, we'll take it.

Carlisle needs to either invest in some promotion for that show or pull the plug.

Saturday was pretty decently attended, especially considering what is going on. Decent number of cars on the show field, I think many of us just needed to get out. The vendor section was as sparse as it has been in recent years but that is because it has been replaced by Ebay, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. That likely will never be the same again. I did find some good deals despite the small number of vendors.

Saw one nice AW11 which was one of my motivations to get some ideas. Completely stock but really nice example of an 1985.

Got me motivated and ended up buying another one on Facebook to add to my collection. Was too cheap not to purchase, running and needs paint but no rust and appears to be a solid example. I'll get it next week, will start a build thread once I decide on the plans for it. Was so cheap I had to buy it, even if it is not as described, I can part it out.
