Some entries into the 2023 Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports feature a laundry list of modifications, but Anthony Cuthbert’s 2017 Honda Civic Type R is a bit different.

Aside from the Apex Racing wheels and the Whiteline sway bars, rear toe links and lowering springs, this Type R is entirely stock–with 306 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque, just as Honda intended.

What this entry lacks in mods, however, it makes up for in experience: Anthony has over seven years of racing under his belt, including two Global Time Attack class championships. In addition to Global Time Attack, the Civic has also competed in the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge and various Gridlife events.

Is all that experience enough to pull ahead of a highly modified field of track cars? You’ll have to see for yourself at the 2023 Ultimate Track Car Challenge.

What is the Ultimate Track Car Challenge? It’s our annual no-holds-barred track competition that simply seeks the fastest machines on four wheels. The rules are brief: Car and driver must pass a safety inspection. Period.

Pretty much everything is welcome: new, old, factory-bought and home-built. Wings are cool. So are box flares, giant intercoolers and sequential shifters.

I'm curious to see how this runs!  Some days I consider trading my Si in for a Type R.
