Motorsports professionals will be able to hear the colorful racing stories behind one of the most popular rivalries in racing.

This year, the PRI trade show’s grand opening breakfast will feature a blast from the past: legendary drag racers Don “the Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “the Mongoose” McEwen!

Why are they so legendary, you ask? Snake and Mongoose had the biggest rivalry the drag racing world had ever seen. The rivalry started in 1964 when engine builder Ed Donovan gave McEwen the nickname “the Mongoose” to promote Funny Car matches against Prudhomme, who was called “the Snake.”

Five years later, this led to production of a pair of Hot Wheels toys modeled after the Snake and Mongoose cars. The promotion was so big, the Snake and Mongoose toys are still highly collectible today.

I’ve seen Don and Tom together before, and the friendship and the rivalry of Snake and Mongoose will be a treat for the audience, as Dave Despain is sure to draw out their best racing stories,” said John Kilroy, producer of the PRI Trade Show.

The grand opening breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11, in Indianapolis at the Sagamore Ballroom of the Indiana Convention. The PRI Trade Show continues through that Saturday, December 13.
