Looking for a modified Mazda RX-4? Why not try your local used car dealer?

The Anchor Auto Outlet of Raleigh, North Carolina, has you typical used car dealer fare: plenty of late-model trucks, a handful of German luxury cars, an assortment of mid-size sedans, and a 1976 Mazda RX-4.

And not just a stock RX-4, either, as this one sports a 200-horsepower, turbocharged, four-port 13B engine–among other mods–and looks to be set up for drag racing based on the wheel and tire combo alone.

Sorting Anchor Auto Outlet’s inventory from oldest to newest reveals that isn’t the only old-school car they have available, as the dealer also has a 1962 Ford Falcon, a 1970 Dodge Polara 496 and even a right-hand-drive 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser Diesel. The things you find when not looking, right?

What’s the most unusual car you’ve seen on a used car dealer lot or website?

I'll predict that this leaves for Australia.  People like the RX-2,-3,-4 here but they are bonkers for them in OZ.

Or PR.

My parents had a couple of RX-4s, purchased new. They're much lower profile than the 3 so you rarely see any sign of them.

That is RAD! Too bad it's setup for drag racing.

I would seriously consider picking that up instead of waiting for the GR86 or Fairlady Z.

I think it's a rotary swapped 929. Close enough anyway.

Isn't that basically what an RX-4 was? Factory swapped rotary 929?

In reply to Keith Tanner :

Pretty much. As far as I know there are just exterior differences like that grill and taillights.

To answer OP's question, I bought my 1988  BMW M5 at a Mazda dealership in St Louis in 2010. I found it advertised on Autotrader. The kicker here is I wasn't looking for one. I had been scouring the internet for a 4 door RWD manual tranny car for 10K or under and there was NOTHING out there for 3 months except for one white CTS 6 cylinder, that I did look at and hated. Then back in 2014 the local Ford Dealership had a 1977 BMW 633i in their lot for a couple months. So it does happen but it's rare.

Pretty sure JG found this listing. Not sure what he was looking for at the time.
