What does Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports contributor Carl Heideman do in his spare time? Rebuild old-school Formula Vee cars, apparently.

Like many projects, this one started a few years ago after a chassis, a body and “pretty much all of the Zink bits but none of the VW bits” was acquired via Facebook marketplace.

The story gets even, better, though as Carl then found a Formula Vee roller along with an original Zink trailer courtesy TheSamba forums.

Now with two Formula Vee cars, the plan is to set one up for vintage racing, and the other as a display.

Check out this build thread now over on the Builds and Project Cars forum.

Cool, will check it out!

Vintage V is actually one of the most crowded racing series in sweden. I rented one for a weekend and it was so much fun(the red with the white nose) , will buy one if i ever get my hands on fast one. It was on historic dunlop racing, which is what makes this car. Slicks is a strange choice for these types of cars..

The newer cars use a much different rear suspension and are quite a bit more streamlined. I've driven both modern and vintage Formula Vees. While the slicks make up a huge portion of the quicker lap times it's the whole package. Modern FVs are probably 10 seconds a lap quicker than the vintage cars.
