What do you do when you downsize? That’s right: massive selloff. Parts and posters, books and brake pads.
We recently moved from a rather spacious building to one that’s a bit more quaint. Plus we lost some storage space in our main shop.
That meant that we needed to liquidate decades’ worth of car stuff.
Where to take it all? This past weekend’s Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
For the trip, we rented an enclosed U-Haul trailer. It would be a one-way trip. If it didn’t sell, it would be left there.
When rains arrived Saturday morning, however, suddenly that plan looked a bit flawed. The show had started the day before, and we still had a lot of parts crammed into our 20x20-foot tent.
And then the gates opened for the day. Despite the marginal weather, buyers came in and like locusts swarmed our booth.
By the end of the day, 95% of the stuff that we brought was gone. We put one set of unsold wheels and one small box back in the truck to go home. Anything else unsold was left behind figuring it would help another enthusiast get a jump on a project.
Weary but happy with our success, we crawled back into the Honda Ridgeline and drove the 900 miles back home.
