Why can't you post to the mag site too?

I was about to enter a week or so ago and then I read your contest rules. It said that entries were due by December 5th. So is there really time to enter or what?

Yes.

Cool, thanks. Just looked at the rules again and they say 12/31. Guess I was hallucinating before.

Mine is in there, but if possible, I'd like a revision of the rules to include a 4th class:

"small garages that don't belong to Jack Olsen"

If your man cave is a basement, you're doing it wrong.

Nope, no hallucinations. It did say December 5 but then we extended the deadline and changed the rules.

I was going to enter, but look how dirty my shop is right now:

Yech! Not submitting that mess for publication. Hopefully I will get some time to sweep and polish it in the new year.

if you have a place that you actually use the words "man cave" to describe, you are doing it wrong..

My entry...

My shop occupies about ¾ of my basement. There are three rooms, the largest of which has a garage door. That is the room where whatever car is under construction lives, and thus chassis, suspension, brake, etc. work all gets done there. It is also where the majority of roll cage fabrication happens. The center stays clear for cars, while the walls are lined with tools. In this room you will find a foot shear, a box brake, a mill, a lathe, and a MIG welder. It’s also where the main roll-away tool box lives.

Adjacent to that main room is a similar size space, though with no car access. That room is mostly used for storage. There is a large tire rack, lots of shelving, and plenty of floor space. This room also has tools – it’s got an old residential oven that is used for powder coating and weld prep and it’s where the tube bender lives when it isn’t rolled outside for cage work. Additionally, the 20 ton press and 60 gallon air compressor live in this room.

Then there is the fabrication room. That houses my main work / welding bench, an assembly bench, the TIG welder, belt sander, drill press, a couple of pedestal grinders, a bead blast cabinet, a parts washer, an ultrasonic cleaner, another roll-away, the paint cabinet, and more heavy duty shelving.

This shop has seen the build of my SMF Civic, in which I got 2nd at the Solo Nationals a few years back. It has housed the construction of two LeChump cars, and two additional national solo cars, and it is where my CP Mustang is being built. For a residential shop that is roughly 900 square feet, I’m pretty proud of the work that I can do here.
