Since we have several other projects to finish up prior to digging into our ASA stock car, we’re mostly in the research phase on it at this point.

A big part of the learning curve will not only involve asking the right questions but also learning what questions to ask. As we come from the world of production-based cars, tube-frame machines and the related bespoke hardware are a little new to us.

So the most notable thing our former ASA stocker has done during the past couple of months provided a temporary home for some broken GT4 bodywork making its way to the BMW Zentrum Museum in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Not gonna lie, it fit nicely.

But speaking of bespoke race car stuff, we are learning that former oval track stock cars are becoming a “thing” in road race communities. Not only are clubs like American Muscle Car Masters and the V8 Road Racing Series providing specific venues for these cars to run in, but big-name suppliers are also jumping on the bandwagon as well.

In fact, one of the biggest names in tires, Goodyear, has just introduced a model specifically aimed at former stock cars gone road racing. Its D4824 tire is intended for those situations. Other Goodyear models, like the D2265–the spec tire for the SRX series–have now been adopted into road racing series like American Muscle Car Masters where they're proving their worth on road courses as well.

Goodyear says that this new tire is optimized for quick, immediate grip at lower temperatures plus durability and consistency through multiple heat cycles. They’re also tuned to the needs of road racers by being more attuned to transient inputs, with increased cornering stability in a variety of cornering situations, not just steady-state left-handers.

While we’re eager to actually begin the wrenching process on our new race car, we’re already excited that we’re entering a segment of the track community that is being recognized and nurtured by major suppliers.

Theres also motorsports for the masses that is now working with vintage stock cars and doing a full wheel to wheel series this summer at rockingham

I think these are the best and safest way to go fast for little $$ possible.  I and a couple friends have them and just run the Pirelli take offs.  Fun, fast, safe, durable and cheap...checks all the boxes!
