Update by J.G. Pasterjak to the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 project car
Dec 6, 2021

This weekend we’ll tow our C5 Z06 Corvette project up to Southern Georgia for the SCCA’s final Tire Rack Solo National Tour event of the year, the Red Hills Region’s annual Axis vs. Allies season finale that takes place in Moultrie, Georgia, on the very Lincoln-like concrete of Spence Airpark.

Staged on the weekend closest to December 7th each year, the long-running regional Axis vs. Allies event pits Axis-built cars from Germany, Japan and Italy against Allied-built machinery from the U.S., United Kingdom, and other assorted WWII good guys.

A points structure is assigned to each team, and the Allies always win, just to keep things historically accurate. A 7:53 a.m. “sneak attack” is staged Sunday morning, but even that has never saved the Axis forces in the points running.

The event is also frequently used as a charity drive for local charities in Northern Florida and Southern Georgia, and sometimes there are even some ‘40s-era memorabilia on hand. It’s a cool time, and a great way to finish out the year.

During the last couple Solo seasons, as the SCCA has adapted a few large events into post-Nationals Tour events, the Axis vs. Allies event has seen its status elevated to a full Championship Tour event, complete with the associated contingency awards and Solo Triple Crown eligibility.

Still, it’s always a fun event as the post-nationals vibe always encourages several drivers to hop in different cars, different classes or even run different configurations to build classes based more around friendly competition than trophy chasing.

In that spirit (and because we have no fresh CAM-eligible 200tw tires around at the moment), we’ll be running a set of well-used Hoosier A7s on our Corvette in either Super Street Modified or X Prepared. While we’re likely facing a class made up of three current national Champions and one runner up (because his co-driver won in the same car), it’ll be fun just the same.

Honk if you see us on the road.

But what if someone shows up with a Swiss car like a Monteverdi?

Have fun! I didn't know the details of this event. I might have to plan for it next year.

I avoided clicking on this all day in fear that you had hit a concrete wall.  Glad that's not the case.

I'll admit to that myself.

You pretend to be on your own team but secretly benefit from Axis points devil

This is the only other black TR6 I've seen. I painted my first one, a '71, black (99L) and it was beautiful. To my knowledge, Triumph never offered a TR6 in black.

Ha. Facebook was also worried we smacked a wall. Honestly that wasn't even on my mind when I wrote the headline. I was ust excited to finish off the year with Hoosiers on concrete. I'll happily ride the wave of clickbait, though :)

You'll need to log in to post.
