Update by Per Schroeder to the Mini Cooper S project car
Jan 13, 2009

Our 2007 MINI Cooper S is heading toward its second birthday and the time has come to trade it in for a new Cooper Clubman. We’ve had a lot of good times in this car, including a win at the Dixie National Tour and a fourth-place finish at the 2008 Tire Rack Solo National Championships. We’ve had a grand total of zero problems with the car, and we look forward to our next round of MINI ownership.

So, why the switch? The Schroeder household recently saw the addition of a new family member. The Clubman can easily handle a child seat, yet it still retains the the MINI’s fun-to-drive quotient. The Clubman probably won’t be a national autocross contender like the S, but it will see the occasional local event. Plus, we’re planning to perform the usual modifications to make the car just a bit faster. We’ve ordered the car with just a few options, including the sport suspension. We expect to take delivery in mid-February.

I'm ordering up a new cooper and wondering what your views are about options - in particular the lsd vs open vs edlc, sport suspension, and wheelsize? Thinking of following in your footsteps in autocross and trackdays...
