Jul 15, 2010 update on Dave_Jorgensen's 1953 MG TD

We finally terrorize the streets

Cam’s done, crank works - we’ve got spark and gas and oil and air. Got nothing under 1800, but considering the 280º cam and the long intake tract on the blower, that’s not bad - for what is essentially a highly tuned 1953 race engine, it’s pretty civilized. Above two grand we’ve got both torque and power, and that’s good - we briefly pulled to over 4000 in 4th, and we still had one gear and 2000 revs to go - we really may have a car that’ll pull the ton, though I know we’ll never be able to pull to 6000 in 5th. With the MGB front swaybar, we’ve got really fine roll control, and those tall Michelins stick surprisingly well. Brakes are definitely push-with-all-you-got. Still got a few stray leaks to pin down, but we’re there.

Hood goes on once we’ve got some details hammered down. Ran at 90º C even in heavy summer city traffic so I think we’re okay.

The city this week, the western slopes of the Rockies next week.
