1977 Porsche Carrera 3.0

12

My example of a fairly rare Porsche Carrera 3.0. The last of the 1970’s era Carreras, this is the predecessor to the 911SC and utilizes the same 3 liter aluminum engine case from the earlier Turbo Carreras - just without the turbo. They are still good for about 200 hp out of the box and 0-6 runs in the mid 6 second range. Less than 3700 were produced between 1976 and 1977. They were never sold in North America, so they are even rarer here in the states - but you do see them around from time to time. I haven’t done much with this yet, but it is a nice example with about 57,000 miles on it now. I’m hoping to get it out on the autocross and track once I freshen the suspension and possibly convert it to EFI. It has SSI Heat exchangers, custom 2-in, 2-out exhaust, Potenza RE-01Rs all around, and carrera chain tensioners. Turbo tie-rods installed and I’ve removed the A/C and backdated the heat system for a much cleaner engine compartment. I love the sounds this car makes when the pedal goes down. Backstory: The car was purchased from the factory in Germany by an Army doctor while he was stationed there. Upon his return to the states, he had the car shipped back. He drove the car occasionally after his return, but put it into storage after falling ill himself. After passing away his wife kept it in storage for several years (13?). I bought the car from the second owner, who rescued it after hearing about it from a friend. After sinking lots ‘o cash on it to get it up and running again, performing the necessary upgrades to make it reliable, and putting a sub-par pain job on it, he drove the car rarely until he needed to sell it, along with a truck, a camper and a boat he also had for sale (methinks he needed cash!). After making a seriously low-ball offer on the car, the owner and I agreed on a price and I brought the car home (a day after my second daughter was born, wife still in the hospital recovering from a c-section mind you!) with not quite 55,000 miles on it. Since then, I have to replace very few things in order to keep it running well. Eventually I plan on having it re-sprayed but until then, I just drive it and enjoy it. She’s a good looker from 10 feet away and she goes like stink on a skunk.

Nice car! Put some deep dish rims with gold spokes on this thing, wear black pants and a black turtleneck and park outside an anime convention and see what happens ;) http://rainbowsphere.oniichannoecchi.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/snapshot20080603100739.jpg

Wow. VERY nice. Black car in the summer w/ no A/C is puzzling, but man, what a beauty. Nice to see such a well-preserved middle year 911.

I dig the green interior. Seriously.

I refer to the interior color as "period correct". My parents had a refridgerator and stove of the same vintage in about the same color when I was a kid.

The green interior is, in a word, awe-some.

The interior looks like the cockpit of an old cessna, I mean that in a good way! Nice ride.
