1993 Mazda Miata

17

A few years back I had built up a very fun track toy based on a 92 civic hatchback. Enjoyed it on track for a few years and then reconsidered the money I had caught up in such a theft target. So I went to part it out… and it ended up selling entirely. So it was time for a new track toy. And as per the answer to everything… I got a miata. A 93 with 90k on the clock and a body that looked like 1mil miles through the worst parts of the world. Not a single panel on the car was in anything remotely able to be considered ‘nice’ shape. A perfect track start. So I went turbo… to cool it we went overboard and V-mounted the radiator (integra DC2 koyo rad) and the intercooler (giant eBay piece). So far its proven to cool perfectly on track. 83degree day and I had a max of 88deg Intake temps. Basic safety done, rearend 1.8l ‘upgrade’, 1.8 brakes, konis revalved to spss3… with some unknown soft springs :(. Front FM sway and other bits and pieces. Custom intake manifold, Lovefab exhaust manifold, GT28RS, RX7 550s, 3” exhaust and list just goes on for random other things. Oh and a homemade standalone Megasquirt install. Car was fun for the two track days I made last year… should be more fun this year with real spring rates, aero, more tire, more boost etc… Build pictures of the car can be found in the attached link to my photobucket account. Link appears to not work for me… so here it is again. http://s295.photobucket.com/albums/mm133/splitime/ (Ignore the stretched tires… I gave the wife the 205s… took her worn out 195s so I could get from A to B without driving around on my track wheels. Those 15x8s get R comps for this season with a healthy dose of fender flares.)

As a miata owner, I am greatly intrigued by what you've done. Congrats! What's that thingy on the top? Keep posting on this car. BTW, did you remove the soft top guts for weight savings?

Soft top had a bad rear window when I got the car. It was one of the first things I removed and tossed. The thingy on the top is a truck/rv/trailer style front/back opening vent. It provides LOADs of fresh air on track. Makes it actually comfy inside when out and about.

Love the car. True Grassroots style. Wish I was half the wrench and innovative thinker Dave is. Guess I will settle for being the better driver. ;) J/K!
