What’s a thread chaser, and why should you use one instead of a tap and die to fix damaged or dirty threads?

Simply put, a tap and die set is made to make new threads–not fix them.

Thread files has save my butt many times.

 Particulary on bigger items like stub axle threads, suspension pieces, etc. Also great for hard to get items or NLA parts that need to be saved and reused

  I have 5 different thread files: 2 different NF/UNC, 2 different metric and one Whitworth. 

 I did a lot of work on old English cars and the Whitworth thread file has save me many $$$!
