A quick cleanup for our midyear Corvette

Despite looking a bit dusty at first encounter, our 1965 Corvette cleaned up quicker and easier than expected.

[How a 1965 Corvette Coupe fell into our lap]

We didn’t even need to break out the heavy gear. Sometimes a gentle approach is just fine.

First, we cleaned the paint with a quick detailer. Then we used a clay bar to remove the bugs and blemishes–today’s synthetic clay pads are wonderful, by the way.

Next, we cleaned the glass and the interior surfaces. Then we could vacuum out the carpet.

After a little bit of shop time, the car looked much better. Sure, the paint still had its issues, but from 10-15 feet away, this was a pretty usable Corvette.

The last detail things we did were to remove–but keep–the front license plate holder as Florida does not issue front tags. We also swapped out the modern black windshield wiper blades for the correct chrome ones.

Overall, we were making progress. Next, we could address a few mechanical issues and start driving and sorting the car further.

If there's such a thing as "perfectly patinaed," I'd say this Corvette fits the bill.
