Budget upgrades

Time to revive this thread.

Things that have changed since the last update: - I moved to Michigan - The Protege made the trip - The BMW is back in Ottawa getting finished up by a friend as a side project with his son.

Now that I’m living in the motor city, it’s really hard to resist working on my car. Obviously I don’t want to sink a ton of money into the Protege with the BMW build continuing at home but I would like to make a few changes.

My first upgrade: New springs. I picked up the springs on my car through a GB on toprotege.com a few years ago. They are “Evotion” springs (a Ractive/toucan product). It was a clearance sale and I ended up paying 50$ for them.

The new springs? Tein S-techs for 100$ shipped.

Advantages of these springs? Linear rates vs. my current progressives. They drop the car about 0.75” more in the front and 0.25” more in the rear.

It’s going to be interesting trying to navigate speed bumps and potholes. I’m pretty sure I have zero hope of making it onto a dolly now.

I have my eye on a set of GC sleeves and springs for 250 shipped but the guy has been online 1-2 times since posting them at the end of december. Not sure I want to send money to someone so flaky.

Stay tuned for more updates.
