What started me down this rabbit hole was imagining how to get my challenge X1/9 together. This car was in my brain the whole time. Not to mention the Subaru. I'd say it is Cyberpunk, but who am I to judge. I know I like it.

Also, Thanks Keith et al. for the education. I've read Neuromancer, but need to delve deeper. Great conversation.

I think it's fair to say I am stretching a bit with some of these. What are you gonna do?

What's a more modern (say, 2000+) affordable platform that could pull off the cyberpunk look?  First gen Impreza coupe?  A lot of the rear-engine cars that come to mind are a little too stubby to pull it off, I think, like the MR2, and most cars are too bublous/bulky in general.  Trying to think of something you could put massive rear tires on, trim the rear bumper to expose some mechanical bits, but still rock as a daily.

Might I interest you in the MR2 222D?

I'm pretty sure a mazda3 hatch would work it.

Snow Crash is great, but it's making fun of the genre as much as it's a great example of it.

True, and that is the genius of it. The genre had already gotten a little to overplayed.  People were getting sick of dark, gritty, etc. and Neil made it fun again.

That looks like the render for B is for Build's SEMA build from last year

Last post about books, then we can get back to car porn :)

The Internet Archive has a bunch of cyberpunk available in ebook form, including Snow Crash, Burning Chrome and all the Gibson stuff I've been nattering on about. Details.

I think this fits the cyberpunk definition pretty well, especially in BTTF2 mode. The BTTF3 version would be steampunk, kinda.

I love this thread even though I know nothing of the genre.  I don't want to E36 M3 up the thread, but how does this DTM Merc do?  I think it's hitting a lot of the aesthetics, but is a 'real' car.

I kind of can't tell what's real or not all the time. I agree that AMG hits the styling cues. Who cares? Just have fun with it, says me.

A lot of these cars have the aesthetics, but they need some more electronics and/or built-in weapons to be truly cyberpunk.  We need a laptop built into the center console or something.  Maybe a laser turret.

The Rally Fighter certainly qualifies for one of the most cyberpunk approaches to car production out there, as an added bonus.

It reminds me so much of the offroad version of the Viper from the TV show Viper.

This Dart Swinger belongs to Bryce Gill of Gill Welding. Between the worn bodywork, LEDs, homemade intake manifold, and electrical project boxes under the hood in addition to a massive infusion of electronics, I'd say it fits the theme.
